The ATRIX is Motorola's latest comeback kid, a phone destined to take the former Droid line to a new level. But is it everything that it's cracked up to be?

If you look at the numbers, the Motorola ATRIX tops almost every single one - with the exception being the camera. At its core is a dual-core 1 Ghz Cortex A9 processor with Nvidia's Tegra 2 chipset, providing far more power than you will realistically ever need. Supporting that CPU is an equally large 1930 mAh lithium ion battery, good for up to 9 hours of talk time. Connectivity is typical of most smartphones, with the quad-band GSM and multi-band WCDMA for 3G/4G (only on AT&T).

The ATRIX's main draw is not so much its use as a smartphone - rather, it's the ability to power a netbook accessory using the phone as a mobile processing unit and modem. Alas, the netbook accessory adds $500 to the ultimate price of the phone. But it offers a nice glimpse of the future.

Expect the ATRIX to run Android 2.2, with an update to Gingerbread planned in the coming months.
