For years, a Google Phone has long been rumored by blogs, news agencies, and other outlets. But it didn't make sense. Why would Google, a software company, get into the smartphone business?
Fast forward to today, when Google officially announced the Nexus One, a full capacitive touch-screen smartphone running Android 2.1. It comes on the heels of Motorola's Droid phone, another Android 2.1 phone that was widely acclaimed as the closest thing to the iPhone, except on Verizon.
Manufactured by HTC, the Nexus One has a couple outstanding features: Qualcomm's 1Ghz Snapdragon processor, large AMOLED 480x800 pixel touch-screen, wi-fi/WLAN B/G/N, 10 hours of battery life, 5 megapixel camera (with smile detection, autofocus, and LED flash), and A-GPS. Its integration with Google's major apps (Gmail, Youtube, Maps, Search, etc) is pretty much a given. Early videos and rumors put the phone experience as extra speedy, thanks to the Snapdragon processor.
The release of the Nexus One should also give Android app store a much-needed boost against the likes of Apple's own.
Unlike the majority of phones these days, Google is selling unlocked versions of the Nexus One along with a subsidized model that comes with a 2-year contract to T-mobile.Find the lowest prices on the Google Nexus One phone.
