T-Mobile G1: The First Android Phone Hits the Streets

February 7th, 2009
Rumors swirled around the internet for years predicting the existence of a GooglePhone. In the end, the rumors were true - to a point. Instead of producing an actual mobile device, Google did what Google does best: creating an intuitive software operating system that could compete with Apple's OS X.

LG KF900 Prada: It's Back

February 1st, 2009
The original LG Prada was widely hailed as the first full touch-screen phone. While the phone itself had few redeeming features, LG's partnership with Italian fashion house Prada paved the way for future generations of touch-screen devices. And now, two years later, the KF900 is LG's newest touch-screen handset. Is it a worthy successor to an evolutionary phone or simply another iClone?

Motorola Aura: MOTOBLNG?

December 29th, 2008
When you're a phone manufacturer on the verge of going bankrupt, what's the best recipe for success? If you answered "design a $1999 phone," then congratulations: you're right! Motorola's fortunes in the past couple of years have fallen considerably, in part due to some pretty lackluster cell phones. But in its latest attempt to jumpstart its device portfolio, the company released the Aura, a highest-of-the-highest end swiveling handset with a price tag of $1999.

Nokia 5800 XpressMusic: A Touch-Screen For The Masses

December 28th, 2008

LG KF510: Minimalist Handset

November 17th, 2008
At first glance, LG's KF510 isn't a particularly noteworthy device. Its feature-set includes meager tri-band GSM support, a decided lack of 3G, and a smallish battery (800 mAh, good for up to 4 hours of talk time). There is one thing that the KF510 does well though, and that is personal style. The metallic casing, for one, is a mere 10.9 mm thin, with a ("scratch-proof") tempered glass face and what LG has chosen to call a "gapless rail support." That last is a slightly novel way of reinforcing the slide mechanism. The bottom line is that it's an impressive looking phone.

Xperia X1: Sony Ericsson's Best Hope

November 13th, 2008
To say that the Xperia X1 has been long-awaited is like saying the ocean is wet. Announced over seven months ago, the X1 was meant to be Sony Ericsson's flagship device, a phone that would set itself apart from the company's batches of uninspiring phones. Unfortunately, long delays and a serious lack of information plagued the launch of the quad-band smartphone, and it was only earlier this month that the device started shipping.

Nokia N85: Better Than Its Predecessor, and Probably Every Nokia Phone Right Now

October 28th, 2008
It's no secret that Nokia's N81 slider, while offering gamers and music lovers dedicated buttons for both pleasures, was not a great phone. In fact, it was a lousy phone, prone to firmware bugs, poor imaging, and build quality that did not befit a $500 phone.
